Emily earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Cybersecurity at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She intends to return to SIUE to earn her Master’s degree in English Literature shortly. While an Undergraduate student, Emily was a member of the Honors program, leaving her with extensive experience with academic writing and research abilities.
While attending SIUE as an undergraduate student, Emily became proficient in business writing and editing, getting plenty of practice in her classes. Emily also became educated on HIPAA, FERPA, SOX, GDPR, and other laws which established regulations for several industries across the United States and world at large.
Emily’s education also included studying the NIST cybersecurity framework, among other commonly referenced open-source frameworks used and referenced across the technology industry.
*Emily has experience using MLA 8th Edition, MLA 9th Edition, and APA 7th Edition styles. Emily is also able to perform editing and writing duties using the Chicago 18th Edition style.

Starting her professional life, Emily briefly worked as a Sales Administrator with a company out of St. Louis, MO. Here, Emily frequently quoted potential customers for products and services, which often included writing and editing contracts to be signed by customers. As a part of her duties, Emily also heavily read documentation and performed research for the purpose of improving operations in her department.
Following her role as a Sales Administrator, Emily worked as a Background Investigator, where she wrote reports according to her employer’s guidelines on a daily basis.
Emily most recently worked as a Cybersecurity Analyst and Technical Writer at SKB Cyber, a small technology startup based out of Peoria, IL. In this role, she has written several policies and important pieces of documentation for clients. She has also made several contributions to SKB Cyber’s blog and social media, and has made contributions to a local magazine on behalf of SKB Cyber.

Emily and her best friend, Zoe, meet for a writing session each week with the goal of eventually making their short stories available to read. To be announced at a later date!
Emily spends most of her free time reading and annotating novels. Emily enjoys studying literature and other writers’ rhetorical pieces in her leisure time.
