Welcome to the EBW Writing Blog!

Welcome!

Hello, I am Emily Brooks-Wilkening, the Owner and Operator of EBW Writing! I am so glad you’re here; I can’t wait to share my freelance writing journey with you all. This has been an idea of mine for years, and I am so thankful to have a chance at taking my business from idea to reality.

What are we doing here?

In this space, I will be writing on my current reads, things I have learned as a freelance writer, and I’ll open discussions for anyone to participate in with a “Question of the Week”. In an ideal world, all of my blog posts will have a lively discussion happening underneath of them!

One of my goals is to create a space where a community of fellow readers, artists, and businesspeople can discuss their interests, and maybe even find new friends. The purpose of the Blog Post Book Club is just that—to give readers a space to connect with other readers! Please have fun with my blog. That’s what it’s here for!

Blog Post Book Club

Blog Post Book Club postings are made once per month. In each Blog Post Book Club post, the novel for the following month will be written at the bottom of the current month’s post. These posts will begin in January 2025 with the first novel being The Handmaid’s Tale, by Margaret Atwood. This is my favorite book, and I hope you all love it, too!

Reading is one of my favorite pastimes. I crave an opportunity to analyze and discuss the books I read—this is that opportunity! For anyone reading who wants to do the same, this is your opportunity, too. If you're not interested in the book of the month, don’t stress it. Feel free to skip any months you don’t want to participate in!

Many people don’t have the time to go to an in-person book club, and some may find setting aside enough time to finish a novel in time is difficult. The Blog Post Book Club is meant to be totally flexible and inclusive, so anyone can join in the discussion at any time.

I am always looking for a great new read, so feel free to email me with book club suggestions. Happy reading! See you all in the comments!

Professional and Creative Writing Discussions

I am relatively new to the world of freelance writing. I have plenty of experience in several different flavors of writing, but I expect to learn A LOT as I navigate the industry. Clients often have widely varying needs and meeting them is bound to come with many lessons. I am no gatekeeper and do not intend to keep all these lessons strictly to myself. Additionally, I know there is much to learn from members of the community.

These discussions are meant to engage fellow writers in conversations about writing in general, writing conventions, types of writing (and the differences between them), business practices, and more. I am excited to learn from you all and to share what I’ve learned with you!

Question of the Week

The question of the week is purely for fun! It’s meant to be a fun way to engage with each other as a community and learn little fun facts about each other. Let’s have some fun and build some connections!

Enjoy the Content!
